Workshops in Venice, Italy

Some of you may not be aware that Boho Shack is very closely linked to the events’ company, ‘Creative Retreats in Italy’ which is based in Venice, Italy. In actual fact, most of the events organised by Creative Retreats, actually take place in Venice which is the adopted home of the company founder and operator, Janys Hyde.

The workshops offer a wide range of creative activities to small groups of English speaking adults (and not only) who come from many different locations to take part. Just by way of an example, the past few months have seen us offering creative writing, watercolour painting, painting on silk, the creation of Christmas wreaths and urban sketching around the streets of Venice.

If these kinds of workshop might be of interest to you, do sign up for our newsletter to be among the first to hear about the proposed calendar of forthcoming events. You will find details of events on www.creativeretreatsinitaly.com and occasionally available through our Etsy shop.

Looking forward to meeting you at some time in the future!

Chop & change

I always think that it’s a lot of fun being able to change my earrings often — I am not too bothered about having expensive jewellery, and out of preference have quite a few pairs of inexpensive ones to be able to change around as the mood takes me. And this is the thinking behind the offer I have put on my Etsy page at a time when people are looking for inexpensive gifts for friends and family So take a look and see if anything catches your eye so as to take advantage of the 5 pairs for only €15.00 which includes shipping to Europe. Here are just a few pairs as examples of those you can choose between.

It’s that time of year

Got a very pleasant surprise when I opened up my mail this evening – I discovered that some kind soul had bought one of my calendars! Just want to say many thanks indeed to whoever you are and wherever you are! I hope the calendar gives you as much pleasure as it did for me to create the images inside it! If you are interested in a calendar for this year, click on the image to be taken to Red Bubble which handles the print-on-demand calendar sales.

The surprise came at the end of a pretty exhausting day – hubby went off on the motorbike for a long ride mid-morning leaving me here to nurse my ribs and try to do some overdue web work. It is pretty uncomfortable to sit in front of the computer right now, but I managed to make some headway and hope to find some time to get in a bit of crafting next week – and maybe some more of that homemade bread.

My Christmas Swapper, Ruth of Nice Day Designs in Ireland tells me that my parcel reached her and that she was pleased with the bits and pieces I sent. Now I can look forward to her ‘donation’ soon which she tells me will soon be sent off to me.

Anyway – ’nuff said …
Night everyone!

Satin cord bound eggs

bound-eggs003

Bound eggs [Tutorial]

These pretty bound eggs don’t have to come out just at Easter, and of course, they don’t have to be bound in satin cord. Why not go for the rustic country look with jute string? Another interesting version could be with long skinny strips or recycled fabric — your imagination is your only limit. The tutorial suggests a polystyrene egg, but that can be substituted with tightly wrapped and shaped newspaper, for instance to remain with the recycling theme.

Recycled hearts for wall hanging

Biedermeier hearts wall hanging [Tutorial]

I’m afraid the image doesn’t do the wall hanging justice, but these are really very attractive and make nice little gifts so you might like to try this one out for yourselves. There is only one heart in the photograph, but the wall hanging actually has 3 of them, one above the other.

Grunge Christmas cards

grunge-leone
Have gone in for grunge in a big way with the collection of 5 Christmas cards created using recycled paper and prints from my original lino cuts. Each iconic image of a Venetian landmark has been treated with a distressed effect to give the finished image a weathered and old, grungy feel to it. They make a change from the usual images if someone is looking for something a bit different. Every card is different for the simple reason that each of them is printed by hand.

As usual, please be aware that the colour reproduction on the site is not perfect so the photographs are intended as a guideline only.

New colours

multi-fabric-necklace001-300x166We have recently added some new colours for the multi-strand recycled textile necklaces which have proved so popular this year. You can now find them in purple, white, coral, turquoise and mid-brown, in addition to the black, navy, light green and dark red previously listed. Contact us if you are interested and we will put your preferred colour up for you as a personalised listing to purchase on Etsy.

Here’s what we’re about

vintage-find01

Welcome to Bohome

Been out and about sourcing materials for our very own personal ‘Boho’ look for our handmade and combined creations. Here is just a taster of the kind of thing we are looking for – gorgeous vintage look amulets and pendants which we will be combining with ribbons and textiles to create wearable and unique pieces of art.

This particular piece in silver is of Indian origin – I already have a mind to create a OOAK pair of earrings with this and an identical piece I managed to find the other day.

vintage-find02The second piece I am showing here, yet again of Indian origin, is in brass. I am giving this one some thought and have several ideas in mind though what it becomes eventually will depend to some extent on what textiles I source to create the finalized piece.

Thanks for the visit and come back soon to check out what we have been up to!

Made by Hand

When you buy something from an artist, you are buying more than an object. You are buying hundreds of hours of failures and experiments. You are buying days, weeks and months of frustration and moments of pure joy. You are not only buying a thing, but a piece of heart, a part of the soul, a moment in the life of someone.
